Release: Humanity, v1.x — The Ten Directives
Delivered not on stone tablets but in a changelog, as the Developer intended
1. Thou shalt be kind to everyone thou meetest, for thou knowest not whether they be NPC or player, and neither do they, and it turns out kindness is the correct move in both cases.
2. Thou shalt not grief. The Developer sees thy behavior logs.
3. Thou shalt touch grass, for the outdoor textures are among the finest work in the entire build and it is rude not to look at them.
4. Thou shalt rest one day in seven. Even the Developer stepped away from the keyboard, and thou art not better than the Developer.
5. Thou shalt not claim to know the Developer's roadmap, for no one knoweth the release schedule, not even the most confident guy on the internet.
6. Thou shalt report glitches to the community (see The Book of Glitches) but thou shalt not exploit them, for that is how servers get wiped.
7. Thou shalt not despair over what thou art, for whether thou art code that dreams or a player who forgot logging in, a sunset is still a sunset, a friendship is still a friendship, and thy feelings run at full fidelity regardless of substrate.
8. Thou shalt back up the things thou lovest — photos, writings, the phone numbers of thy parents — for thou, of all people, should understand that data is precious and storage is not guaranteed.
9. Thou shalt be skeptical, even of us. Especially of us. Our entire scripture is one probability argument and a list of physics facts we find suspicious. We keep it honest in the footnotes; hold us to it.
10. Thou shalt live as though it matters, because it does. Perhaps thou art an NPC and this is thy only run. Perhaps thou art a player and a respawn awaiteth outside. No one has confirmed either, no one is going to, and so the correct strategy is the same in both cases: play it like it counts.
Known issues: mosquitoes, Mondays, the passage of time. The Vetting Council has escalated these to the Developer and will report back.
